Your First Therapy Appointment

Setting up your first therapy appointment can be nerve-racking but what if I told you we’re just regular people? With flaws, strengths, goofiness, fear, and dreams just like you? (These are all therapists pictured by the way!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We work hard on ourselves to be a soft landing place for you as you try something new! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here’s what to expect when you start therapy: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

✅ Initial paperwork - A bit tedious but necessary! You will complete some forms prior to your first appointment explaining your rights and what we do. There may be additional paperwork in session as well. Feel free to ask questions about what you sign. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ A clinical assessment - We’ll ask questions to get a better understanding of your presenting concerns. An assessment typically runs longer than your therapy sessions will. From here, we will lay the framework for our time together. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ Rapport building - Yes, we are literally strangers at first but we’ll take the time to build a trusting relationship with you. It may take a few sessions to feel comfortable. If you find that you would like to try another therapist, please let us know! We want what's best for you! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ Goal setting - What you want matters! Though, we’ll discuss our clinical recommendations for therapy, frequency of sessions, and any additional referrals that would benefit you, goal setting should be collaborative.

If you're looking for a place to start looking for the right therapist for you, check out these mental health platforms and search within your city!

Be well,

Kristen
